Set piece takers

by kjordafen, Feb 14, 2023

Hi!

I have been wondering how much the free kick and corner kick stats influence the game, and how much one should focus and invest in getting a good taker. Until now, I have not paying much attention to free kick or corner kick stats on my players, or when buying players.

Just curious if anyone has done any tests or reflections of how important those stats are, and what the gains could be to have a really good free kick/corner taker.

Example: Would it be worth it to invest heavily on a really good free kick and corner tacker for example Bruno Fernandes or James Ward Prowse? Or is the gains from a average free kick/corner with 13-14-15 not significantly worse than a taker with 18-19-20?

Thank you in advance for any input!

Nahh... I really don't think that very high "Free Kicks" and "Corners" attributes are necessary

Of course, it's always good if someone your players has it at very high level but I'm sure it isn't tragic if it's not.

I find somewhere 12-14 level is fine.

I like having a good set piece taker, but it's not something I'm focusing on. Usually one of the midfielders I pick up for other reasons has good enough attributes. I wouldn't sacrifice more than maybe half a star of ability to keep such a player on the field.

Especially for free kicks I'm not too sure how much it matters. You see some absolutely ridiculous goals from below average takers, and my 17 FK, 17 long shots, 15 technique guy hits only posts. For corners I do think it matters, but shouldn't really need 18+, depending on the level 13+ should be good, maybe above 15 for top clubs.

i think high corner does matter. I just experimented by giving Dilrosun 20 in corners and he is racking assists.

Ofc it does matter if you want focus on that direction, but sometimes in order to get a free-kick/corner kings you might lose something else on the pitch, for me the best example of king of midfield is Prowse, i will try to test him as well :P

Might be a good test to try now that we have some of these broken corner routines. Since it's scoring like 20+ goals per season we should be able to pick up the signal even in the raw goals per season data.

For example i am running a game test (i am playing it) and Osimhen can't really that much even being focused on corners and the taker was Politano feels like it depends how the taker trown it
