Attacking throw-ins set pieces for 21.4.0 Patch

by Magician, Mar 16, 2021

Hi,

It seems SI has changed the way long throw-ins work in the 21.4.0 patch so here're attacking throw-ins set pieces which I find works very well in the 21.4.0 patch. I updated my Phoenix tactic with the new throw-ins - https://fm-arena.com/thread/784-phoenix/

Please note, that this long throw-ins setup is designed to work with my Phoenix tactic and if you play with different tactic that use a different formation/roles/duties then you have to adjust this setup to fit your tactic.

Throw-in delivery: Long

DL should take the left throw-ins

DR should take the right throw-ins

Here are few examples hot the throw-in setup might work:

not work from me in your tactic, knap tactics too...

What do you mean when you say "not work"? It works just fine for me.

Are you expecting to score after every throw-in with this? And if you don't then it "not work"

I find it's the best attacking throw-ins for the 21.4 patch but don't expect a miracle here... it just will get you more goal than anything else and that's how it works...

When I say that it doesn’t work, it means I have played more than one ONLINE (not only matches with a bot) match, and I can say that with this positioning of a throw-in, I did not get a single dangerous moment at the opponent's goal - be it a computer or a real player

I've tried the throw-ins and for me it worked better than short/mixed/quick throw-ins or any other long throw-ins.

Of course, as @Markizio said, you don't score after every throw-in but it works better than anything else, at least for me.

My experience is that long throw-ins generally have a fairly low success rate anyway but it can bring in some goals from time to time depending on your choice of players (and your opponent's) in the box and the aerial reach of your opponent's GK. If your opponent's GK is worldclass like Edeson or Alisson of course I bet 99% of the time he catch the ball. But for weaker opponent players it is fun seeing (from time to time, albeit sparingly) the players mixing up in the box for one of your players (not necessarily the tallest one) to flick the ball into goal.

What was exactly the change in this patch? Are they throwing longer, shorter, more precise, trying to pass into space? Any clue yet?

Hi,

If you want you can send me your saves and I'll take look what's going on.

But please note that if you play with a very weak team like Fulham and you play against a very strong team like Liverpool then you'll get a little or none scoring opportunities after the attacking throw-ins and when you play with a weak against a strong team then you usually get very few attacking throw-ins so it's not enough to create even a single scoring opportunity.

The stronger your team, the more attacking throw-ins your team gets in a match and  the more scoring opportunities your team gets after the attacking throw-ins.

In the 21.4 path the distance at which a player can throw the ball has been greatly reduced so players have stopped to throw the ball into the opposite GK hands.

@Magician, Your new throw-in set piece works really well on my tactics than on my old ones. Thank you.

I'm glad it works well for you.

Your set piece basically has more players in the box, so even if the ball doesn't reach the first target, there are still other targets preparing for the failure of the first attempt.

The success of your throw-ins are below :

1. The ball is thrown to the first set target.

2. The ball fails to reach the first target, and flows backward.

3. The second target receives the ball and passes it to another player in the box suitable for scoring.

4. Scored!

It's sad that I can't upload video clips :)
