ZaZ - Set Pieces

by ZaZ, Nov 23, 2025

I have been testing set pieces, and these got me the best results so far. However, it is pretty hard to test set pieces effectively, so I would appreciate if others could test and share results, and maybe how they compare to other set pieces. Let me know how it worked for you!

In my personal experiments with Autumn 0.2 and Winter 0.2, it improved a lot the goals scored and points per match, but didn't change significantly the goals conceded. I am not sure if it didn't improve defense because we are talking only about six or seven goals per season (so reducing one or two wouldn't make much of a difference), or if it was because scoring more goals make the team relax and concede more during match (usually happens when you have a larger lead), outweighing the gains from better defensive set pieces.

Do you know a way to see "*.fmf" content as json or tson or any other format? Cant do much with PS5.

@ZaZ Good to see you back, man. Welcome back to the community. I really couldn't find a good set piece in FM26. Could you share your results from your tests? For example, how many goals did your team score in the league from corners or free kicks?

Thank you!
Results depend a lot on the team, because of the characteristic of the players. Keep in mind I tested with teams predicted for middle of the table and last place (Like Nottingham Forest and Burnley). For corners, results range from 10-15, and indirect free kicks were 5-6 per season. Some cases got like 20 corner goals and 10 indirect free kicks, but those are outliers (however, pretty achievable for teams with better players).

Using Zaz's set pieces my defender scored a very important goal from a indirect free kick in quarter final of the Champions League

Gratz! I was considering only the League. If we put together all competitions, then goals from set pieces get even higher. I would estimate them to be around ~20% of total goals of the season.

Will your set pieces work with other tactics too?

I tested with my four tactics, and all got a noticeable boost in average points and goal difference. I can only assume it works for any tactic.

Hi @ZaZ is this still your preferred set piece routine after the ME changes?

I didn't test it after the ME changes, but it is still the one I am using.

I have updated my set pieces after some extensive testing, and would like to know if any of you want to try it and report the results. The set pieces are in the attachment, as well as pictures for people in consoles. Please, let me know how it worked for you!

Still using your old ones that produce a goal here or there from set pieces. Now that I have better jumpers maybe 5-10 per season mostly from corners. And I do occasionally get hit on the counter especially from IFK far from goal which can be frustrating.

So I'll give these a go, but I play slowly so can't really promise any feedback for a few weeks.

Thank you! The old one was made in November during beta, so it got clearly outdated with new match engine changes. The new version should be better in all aspects. I still think it can improve in the defensive corners, but all changes I tried ended up being worse or reducing win rate.

Small sample. After half a season with old set pieces and half with new production is roughly the same. There are some new types of goals scored though but for and against. With better familiarity over time or just better RNG it might pull ahead. Keeping the new version for now, I seem to be getting hit on the counter less than before and that's probably the most frustrating thing to watch :D

Thank you for testing. Keep in mind for any set pieces anyone develop, results from a single season can vary from 5 goals from corners to 15 goals from corners (for example), so it is very hard to measure from a single test run. That is why it is good when people talk about their results, so we can see what the majority of experiences is like. My tests were made with one of the worst teams of the league, using a tactic with three defenders, and results might be completely different under other conditions.
