Best of Tactics

by ZaZ, Jun 5, 2021

I'm isolating the best score of each position and role in FM-Arena as well as each team instruction. As a reminder, a low score doesn't mean a position, role or instruction is bad, since they were not tested in similar conditions. Tables are presented in the link below.

For player instructions, @Egraam is keeping tables in the link below.

i think you should add the team fluidity, unless it has no effect on how the tactic works, not sure though.

Changed to a spreadsheet so it can be changed dynamically as new tactics are tested.

fantastic bit of analysis, good work sir

I was hoping to analyze the top 100 tactics and look at averages rather than best, but have only got through the top 50. You will see in the tactics section I have tested a tactic using formation, roles and mentality that I thought came out best. It has tested very well for me. I used formation rather than position as I think this means more. Split formation into 5 rows, DC DLR then WBLR DM then MLR MC then AMLR AMC then ST.

I haven't got to the instructions yet and it might be a bridge too far

Below are the results:

Seeing how the instruction work also would be incredible good job

Hopefully someone makes something like this for the player instructions

It sucks because you need to download and open every single tactic, then check every single role, then note it down. It's like 11 times the work for team instructions, except that most stuff from team instructions you can see from the screenshot.

So far I've only went through some of the top tactics because I've already had them downloaded, I'll try to fill it out more in the next few days. I've only went through each tactic and wrote down the PIs from every position so keep in mind that some tactics simply don't use a certain PI - for example they use neither Take More Risks or Take Fewer Risks, but this was done really quick for now, I'll work on the sheet more later and try to add those instances as well.

Do you mind if I add that to first post?

Sure, go ahead.

Fantistic work again Egraam, going to try and put a tactic together using the analysis from this thread

1

Instead of looking at the average score for each instruction or player role, maybe it makes more sense to count how many times everything pops up in the best tactics? As in, I don't think it's very useful to say "Dribble Less has an average score of 6.5 and Run At Defense had a 6.8" - I think you can get more out of the analysis by saying something like "Out of the top 50 tactics, 1 had Dribble Less as an instruction, 9 had Run at Defense, and the other 40 had no instruction" (or whatever the actual numbers are).

That's what the analysis is, its telling you what has been used the most.
