Rosler meets River Plate (2-3-3-2)

by MarnixKolder, Apr 18, 2020

The background - I wanted to play 3 at the back (with a libero but I could never get this to work!) with rampaging wing-backs and two up top. I came across Mr U Rosler's 'Enganche 20.4' and used this as a basic template for my tactic.

A bit of trial and error resulted in a few changes of roles (PFs become AFs, Mez's become BBMs, CWB-As become WB-Ss, G-D becomes SK-S) and dropping the Enganche back to an AP-A. Although I wanted to play a libero I found that the HB role plays similar-ish, but doesn't stray too far forward or roam too far. It plays as an attacking 4-4-2 diamond going forward, and a solid 5-3-2 when defending.

The template also takes some inspiration from Knap's Argus 352 and FM Grasshopper's River Plate 4-1-3-2 (although most of the things borrowed from that have since disappeared). The tactical style and PIs borrow heavily from TFF's Gladiator V2 from 2019 as I loved the way that played and I won *everything* using that tactic with Dulwich Hamlet in FM19.

So yeah, it's a bit of a Frankenstein's monster with my own little twist of lemon on the side.

In terms of results, I've taken 1860 Munich from the German 3.Liga to champions of Germany. And you'll see that I've won the Bundesliga 4 out of the last 5 times, with a couple of recent Pokal wins for good measure. This season was the my best so far in the Champions' League, losing 4-3 on aggregate against PSG.

I'd love to have this tested to see how it stacks up against the masters of tactics. Thanks
