Rosler meets River Plate - more attacking!

by MarnixKolder, May 8, 2020

A few weeks ago I submitted my 'Rosler meets River Plate' tactic as it was doing great things for me. The following year, like always, it stopped doing so well and my 3 year Bundesliga run was ended. I needed to make some changes.
I'd brought in a young Brazilian who looked like he could do some amazing stuff. He is an AM though and I didn't have one of those in the formation, so I had to make some changes.

I pushed my central MC up into that AMC slot, retaining the AP-At role. That left me with two BBM's in the centre of midfield and I felt something needed shaking up there. I've always like a CM-At and I've never used a RPM so that's the way I decided to go. I also tweaked some PIs within them to make them a little more aggressive, both in attack and defence.

I also tweaked PIs on the HB and the WBs too. Just finessing them really but they weren't quite doing what I wanted them to.

The final change I made was to switch one of AF-At into a F9. I just felt the AP-At, the F9 and the AF-At might be a nice trio playing together.

And wow, things could not have gone better. Halfway through the season, I am unbeaten in the league (scoring 45 and only conceding 11 in 18 matches), into the Pokal 3rd round, I won 6 out of 6 in the Champions League group stage.

The AP-At is my top scorer and top with average rating. The RPM is top on assists. And the football they play is beautiful, it really is.

I would love to know if it just a factor of my players but a great tactic all round. Thanks!
