Training and development for young players

by Mark, Jan 10, 2022

There have been a lot of questions about training focus for each position over many months on this website. I have generally approached this by looking at which individual additional training focus would suit the position best. After analysing the machine learning weightings against attributes that each individual additional training focus covers I think a rolling approach of between 1 and 4 training focuses should be used depending on the position.

To take the most advantage of the additional focus you need to have some of the training sessions that allow individual focus training in your weekly training schedules. The best schedules for this are Aerial Defence, Ground Defence, Chance Creation and Chance Conversion.

Here are the Training Focus calculations based on the GS Ratings, with the best individual focus schedules in blue for each position.

If you look at the ones that score at 150 points and above and then stick them into a 12 week schedule it looks like this:

After the 12 week cycle you need to start again at the top.

hello, can someone explain how to import the trainings to fm?

The training doesn't have a direct impact on the result of matches but it has indirect impact on the result matches. A proper training settings keep players happy and fit so their Morale and Conditions are at very good levels which obvious helps in matches. Also, a proper training helps your players develop their attributes faster, of course, if they are capable of developing because if they reached    their developing potential then even the best training won't help them to develop their attributes.

yes, i now that, but i have a lot of injuries, so i wont to import some training to fm

I guess he read "can someone explain the importance of trainings in FM"?

Anyway, just go to training > schedules > select schedule... > custom schedules > import schedule

You still need to set the training manually in calendar, week by week. It's one of the parts FM needs to improve the most.

My mistake, sry :)

So can I add, that what I posted was the additional focus aspect. You should also train each player to the position and role you want to play them in. Also check all players after each match and set any that are fatigued to rest for a few days. This will limit the injuries.

If all you want is to avoid injuries, then you can set them to rest automatically from training when they are tired. Just set "no pitch or gym work" for everyone below excellent condition and your injuries should drop by at least 50%, without needing to touch anything else. It's the "do and forget" solution for injuries.

At post #31 above I gave my views on training including additional focus. @ZaZ provided some additional advice on preventing injury through training at post #38. I thought I would provide a few more tips on my approach to managing.

I always set up 5 selection groups and review it each time I sign new players. The groups are Best XI, Second XI, Potential, Speed, and Size. A summary of each - Best XI is obviously your best side based on ykykyky balanced GS Ratings. Second XI once again self evident, the back up team with second best player in each position based on GS Ratings. Potential is the team of players that would benefit most and has the most improvement based on GS Ratings. Speed uses the player with the best Acceleration for each position based on the players from the first 3 sides. Size uses the player with the best height/weight for each position based on the players from the first 3 sides.

I then use the Best XI as the default side, and drag in players from the Second XI if and when there are injuries or suspensions. If we have a congested schedule I will rotate the squads between these 2 selection groups. I use the Potential side for Cup games and late in the season if there are games that don't matter. For the other 2 selection groups, I look at the scouting report for the coming game and if Acceleration or Pace are mentioned in the weaknesses I use the Speed group, and if Determination or Bravery is mentioned in the weaknesses I use the Size group.

I only generally train 2 tactics, ZaZ Blue 4.0 and Winx V4. They are a similar structure so I can easily move between them. Winx uses an MC instead of AMC and plays wider instead of ZaZ Blues attack down the middle. I use ZaZ Blue as the default and only move to Winx if the opposition defence is breaking down and stopping the middle attacks or if we are getting a few unexpected results. When we get 2 or 3 goals in front or we cop 4 or 5 yellow cards I just set the mentality to Cautious.

I like to control all the teams for the club so I can ensure that all the players stay match fit and have the opportunity to fulfil their promise. It also means that if a player is out of form you can manage it, that is you can drop him until his form improves and give an up and coming player a run at the top grade. I find this is particularly useful for strikers.

Anyhow, I hope this has helped someone. It has certainly worked for me.

After some experimentation with training, I found the training schedule below to be the most efficient for player growth. For reference, I set players to rest automatically when condition is not excellent, and set focus to either Quickness, Endurance or Reactions.

P.S.: I reuploaded with Physical instead of Resistance. They have the same results in my tests and that might be a bug, so I keep Physical to make it clearer.

Great work, pal.

Thanks! I made the schedule to fit with matches during any day of the week, so it can be just copied and pasted for the whole year, including pre-season. As a matter of fact, it gives almost double the growth I used to get with old training schedule, and those extra attributes help winning matches way more than any other match bonus would.

Cheers, will try it ouy!

If you only have 1 match a specific week, or even none, do you keep the "match training" in the schedule or do you switch it with physical?

The game automaticly adds "recovery" and "match preview", do you switch these out with general training as well?

I just set training for the whole season, including pre-season, and forget about it until next year. If you are fine with the extra work to remove recovery and match preview, then do it. You don't need recovery sessions when your players are set to rest automatically after matches, because they would just skip those sessions anyway.

Thank you!

Does this schedule need "possesion" coaches since there are no possession sessions in the schedules? Should i perhaps assign my best coaches to defending, attacking and physical?

It does need possession coaches. As far as I know, coaches affect attributes trained, not specific sessions of training. My schedule trains all attributes (except those that can't be trained).

Sorry for the stupid questions. What are the reactions training? Thanks

GK Reactions, it's an additional focus.

Do you put the players on double intesity or normal when condition is excellent?

Normal.

I remember we did some tests trying to figure out what factors(except the attributes) make players to develop faster and we found the following factors had the most influence:

- The intensity of the training. The higher intensity, the higher development rate.
- The quality of the training facility.
- The quality of the coaches.
- The amount of competitive matches a player participates during a season.
- The quality of competitive matches (the competition reputation).
- The ratings a player gets in matches.

Different training schedules didn't have any significant influences on the development rate, they just were responsible for the distribution of points between the attributes.

Hey @Zippo is there an order of importance to these?

@Mark do we have any conclusion about training schedules?

I use @ZaZ ones. They appear to be the best now

Can someone compare results from ZaZ's schedule to these?

Mine is better. The author of those videos (which is a very nice guy) didn't consider automatic resting, so he has lots of "idle" training to make it practical during a normal season. If he considered automatic resting, then it would probably be very similar to mine. Automatic resting allows players that didn't participate in the match to keep training, which is obviously ideal.

To be clear, my training schedule is inspired by his results, so he deserves credits for that. I just picked the best sessions of his results and made further experiments based on that. In other words, he narrowed what I had to test, since it would be impossible for me to test everything.

What do you mean by automated resting? How do you do it?

Training > Rest > No pitch or gym work for players bellow excellent condition. You can see a picture of that a couple of posts above.

thank you, do you do the same for the reserve and youth teams?
