I think I'm more hesitant to play MR/ML. I am a sucker for those players who can play ST/AM(RLC), but finding players who play MR/ML seems to be more difficult, due to prevalence of 4231 in the game I suspect.

I find in FM it doesn't take long to train a player a new position so you really can easily build a team for any formation.
Yeah I saw that test. Part of the blocker is just that I'm heavily invested in my save with a mature team that's setup for 4231/433 DM Wide, and I have almost nobody in the club who can play MR/ML at all.
I have considered using the editor to sort of rearrange my senior squad's positions a little just to clear that blocker. I would give them competent or accomplished in the equivalent position as they're playing in my current tactics, and drop their current position ratings as well to avoid messing up their CA, then train them up from there. Just to clear the initial hurdle that's blocking me from dropping the lead line of my attack down that one stratum (ST to AMC and AM(RL) to M(RL))

I'm a big fan of AM(RL) positions too

Oh I know, I've been using Spurs/Universal home/away for a couple of seasons with good success, I'm just a tinkerer and I feel like you can't go very far down the list of am(rl) formations before you sacrifice a bit too much quality for my tastes.

I find that I have never been comfortable with 2 midfielder formations. I have never been able to stomach playing a 442 or 424 for more than a season or so. I just don't like the style of play offensively or defensively.

In my opinion 442 can include aml/amr
