I'm new to the forum and I'm amazed at all the great work that has been done here!
I found the attribute tests very interesting and, although I realize they have been inactive for a few months, I thought I'd suggested a few additional tests:
- Weak foot -> The quality of a player's weak foot has been an attribute very highly rated in the game's Current Ability (for almost all or all positions) for a while now. I would be very interested in seeing how weak foot proficiency would fare under the testing methodology you have adopted here.
- Consistency and important matches -> Would also be very curious to see how important these hidden attributes are under the FM arena testing methodology. Note that - according to Evidence Based Football Manager - important matches matters more in competitions with higher reputation. So that is something to take into account if you were to perform this test.
- Pressure -> My assumption since I've played FM and have known about the hidden attributes has been that, all else equal, the hidden personality attributes (professionalism, ambition, loyalty, sportsmanship, and controversy) do not directly affect a player's performance on the pitch. Obviously some of these attributes influence a player's current ability progression and, I think, all of them can influence a player's morale level at the start of a match in various ways. But once a match starts, and a player has a given set of attributes and morale, my assumption is that these mental attributes do not matter (not sure if right, a test would be interesting)... The one hidden personality attribute that I'm doubtful works like that is pressure. I could imagine, for example, that a player with low pressure would become more nervous during an important match (regardless of which morale the player entered the match with). Would be very interested if you could test whether pressure (if not also the other hidden personality attributes) has an impact in player's match performance and consequently on a team's win rate (holding morale and other factors constant).
I realize that what I'm suggesting may be quite a bit of work. But I think it would nicely complete the tests you've already done and hopefully would be easy to set up given all the work you already did to set up the other tests.
Part of my curiosity around the effect of the pressure attribute comes from wanting to figure out the best strategy around mentoring... in particular, whether it is worth preserving a player's high pressure personality (e.g., jovial, light-hearted) at the cost of a player remaining with lower-than-he-could-achieve professionalism and/or determination.
