what a beautiful tactic!

I love that fullbacks are so overperforming here. Also, only 47 goals conceded while having attacking mentality is insane!

I took charge of a team from a second division in an Eastern European country that was predicted to finish mid-table. We won promotion, which is no surprise. But then, in our first season in the top flight, we won the league with a 10-point lead without replacing a single player in the squad — and most of them are nearing their 30s, so it’s not like they developed much either.

I believe this is the strongest plug-and-play tactic available right now, especially considering how the test league is structured — creative natural defensive midfielders are hard to come by; most of them are central midfielders.

Just wanted to share my results with this tactic. First season with Barcelona, quadruple and undefeated in the league too! Also I only conceded 18 goals whilst scoring 142 goals in the league.

I've been playing with a modified version of this tactic on the fmtweak engine and I gotta say, first, it's terrific, and second it's the best one-dm tactic I've tried or put together at defending a 4231.

Knap in your opinion, what's your top 5 best Tactics for underdog-average teams?

So first of all with any base engine meta tactic I turn down the mentality to positive or balanced, drop the line from very high to high, and turn off step up and invite crosses. the fmtweak engine feels like it made these settings appropriately more risky and not worth it in most moments.

Next, as a personal thing I make some small tweaks to PIs. I add shoot less to dmc and fb, sometimes to mc. Don't know if it helps, as they still take 35 yard row z potshots but hey at least it feels like I'm trying :D I'll take off the duplicate instructions--if the team is already dribbling more, I don't think anybody needs it specifically except maybe DCs. Not sure it's doing anything but dribbly-boi DCs are so good at breaking lines I don't want to mess with it. I'll also remove PIs that I can't add after the TIs are set (like close down more on attackers that are already maxxed out on closing down; I don't think it does anything). I also don't think most FBs are good enough at passing to take more risks, so that comes off.

Finally, there's a layer of tactical-matchup tweaking. If the other side has an amc like against a 4231, I will drop my dm(s) to a dm(d) and OI always close down and tight mark the amc. Finally, sometimes I will drop my FB(a)s to FB(s) if either the other team is better than me, they have amazing wingers, one of my FBs is slow, or I'm trying to see out a win. I'm more inclined to do this against a formation that really relies on amr/l for scoring, like a 433 or 343.

USE 1 MC, Can drop mentality if required

433 doesn't seem effective as the 424 but I need a defensive tactic for the 424 can you help?

CONTROL TACTIC

Remove Counter Press and/or Counter

For a SUS these are ideas to use.
Remove counter press counter

Stop WB runs by going to defend or no nonsense FB

Change mentality cautious/Defensive

full SUS would be to regroup and hold shape

As I'm using the 424 main and best one on this site. I have full backs on attack. I just want a 424 tactic that's controls and still attacks I feel like the caution and defensive approach is inviting pressure any other ideas mate

DM on defend

Can I keep this on postive or balanced to control away tough games? Also take off counter press and  lower the tempo down?

I seldom change tempo but the rest are progressive tweaks towards a SUS. What you use depends on the match and stage of the match.

What tactic you recommend? I'm currently using a 424 attacking one but I need a formation or tactic that still attacks and on low tempo still attacks with controlled against the big teams what would you reccomend on this?
