I've been experimenting with a different way of turning a Football Manager save into a story.
Instead of making a traditional Let's Play or simply going through matches and transfers, I wanted to treat the save more like a football documentary — where finances, recruitment, tactics and the consequences of every decision are part of the story.
The first project is Valencia CF.
The idea behind Project Renaix is simple: if a decision wouldn't make sense in real football, we don't make it.
Valencia start the project with almost €600m of debt, an unfinished new stadium and a squad that needs rebuilding. There are no financial shortcuts, unrealistic wonderkid shopping sprees or save-scumming. We sell before we buy, work within the club's financial situation and try to build something sustainable.
Season one ended up becoming much more dramatic than I expected. We were predicted to finish 8th, but somehow found ourselves fighting for Champions League football — while injuries, young players breaking through and unexpected setbacks completely changed the season.
I turned the whole season into a 35-minute documentary rather than a traditional FM episode:
This is still a new format I'm experimenting with, so I'd genuinely be interested in feedback from other FM players — particularly whether the documentary approach works for you and what you'd want to see more or less of.
