Playing with obfuscated attributes

by AlexH, Nov 16, 2023

Still pretty new to FM in general - last night I stumbled across FMStag's post about performance metrics and the megapack he's created:

https://fmstag.com/fm-stags-custom-views-megapack-for-fm24/

There's an appeal to me to make my experience a little less "reverse engineering the simulator" at this point.  That said, I've thought about:

1)  Playing on PC and getting a skin that blocks the attributes altogether.  The issue with that approach is that I feel like if I were, say, actually taking the Bromely job, there would be some subjective measurements for things like "determination" or "composure" and objective measurements for things like pace and acceleration. So....

2)  There are skins and whatnot that give ranges for the attributes on the PC I'm lead to understand - which might be closer to how an analytics department might work.

I thought I'd reach out here and see if anyone plays without the precise (or even showing) attibutes, why, what your set-up is like, etc.

Anyone thinking/thought similar?

You are talking about moneyball basically. There is statman skin which is attributeless. I played last year and it was pretty fun.

Sorry for coming in a bit late.

I've played with these attributeless skins before.  It's a lot of fun, actually - it forces you to really get to know your players.

It's actually not necessarily "moneyball," since you're not going to be able to see the really fine differences between players.  Remember that the difference between having a Pace rating of 19 and 16 is huge — but with the skins that just show you a general color to indicate the attribute level, both of those numbers would be green.

I recommend giving it a try.  When I finally move up to FM24, I'm planning on going back to the attributeless "hardcore" mode.  It's too easy to take advantage of the power of Pace and Acceleration otherwise.

Yes but some of the skins still have attributes but they show in a different way like stars. If a player has a star in pace that means its 16+. It could be 20 or 16, there is still a huge difference but it is better than not knowing anything related to attributes.

As others have said removing the attributes can offer a bit more challenging gameplay but in my opinion the game already makes it hard to grasp the true ability of players - especially so if you are new to the series. The attributes don't move with the players actual ability (CA) fast and can be very misleading.

I play with the Narigon skin that shows the current ability always, I was tired of players having good stats but awful CA. One might say I permanently play with no attributes because I pay barely any attention to them and just use the CA, as everything is dictated by that number regardless of any attributes except pace & acceleration.

I myself do care about winning a lot though, whilst others roleplay the manager job more it’s all personal preference.
