Minimum attributes for player traits

by ArsenalHighbury, Apr 24, 2023

I like adding traits to players but never know how the player will suit the trait, I’ve looked at guides and all they say is for example “Required abilities: preferably good dribbling ability (Dribbling, Technique, Anticipation and Balance), crossing ability (Crossing, Technique, Anticipation, Decisions, Teamwork and Vision), attacking movement (Anticipation, Decisions, Teamwork and Off The Ball) and mobility (Acceleration, Agility and Pace).” But like what is good, what is the minimum attribute rating the player needs, for when I go ask a coach to train him the trait he might say “ it’s a trait that’s suits natural goalscorers, which isn’t the case with him”, does he need 10 finishing and technique or does he need 15, it’s not explained anywhere.

"Traits" are just locked PIs, it's a negative thing.

Why would you want to limit yourself and remove an ability to change the behavior of your players through out the tactical settings?

Wouldn't a striker with "Moves into spaces" perform better than a striker without such a trait in a tactic that uses "Pass into space", assuming that they have exactly the same stats? I always try to train my strikers into having "Moves into spaces", "Likes to try to beat offside trap" and "Knocks ball past opponent" - I feel like they really complement a fast striker.

If you think with "Moves Into Channels" your striker should do better then why wouldn't you just add "Moves Into Channels" PI to him. There's no point in training it as a "Trait" because it locks this PI on him forever.

I have a young striker with “comes deep to get ball” which I can’t get him to unlearn.

Do you know if there are any specific coaching attributes that will make it more likely? Such as, ‘working with youngsters’, ‘mental’ and ‘attacking’.

I don't think there's attributes that can help to unlearn it faster. I guess you just to keep trying.

Surely there are traits that aren't available as PI. Like shooting traits (shoots with power, places shots, lobs keeper...), passing traits (dictates tempo, switches ball to the flank), dribbling traits (knocks the ball past his opponent) and probably various others

Yes, you're right there's a few Traits that looks unique and I guess only them are worth looking at.
