Hey guys,

Is anyone else still playing FM23 and if so have you noticed a change in the match engine the past few days? I had a steam update over the weekend and since then my tactic which was working wonders is broken. I've gone from league winners to mid table. When I check the game status on FM23 it says 23.5.0+1827095 (m.e v23.2.0.0)

Have SI nerfed the match engine to encourage people to buy FM24 or am I overthinking it?

Any answers would be hugely appreciated as I'm ready to give up on my long term save at this rate
Is anyone still playing FM23 and if so, is your tactic still working? I've been using this bombyte tweak for multiple seasons to great success, but recently I'm losing loads of games despite my team being very strong. My previous team who won the league and European cup last season is now mid table conceding from direct balls behind my defence every game. Has the match engine changed? Something feels strange with it now.
Hi All.

Im wondering if anyone has ever managed to increase a league's reputation to overtake the premier league as the highest rated league?

I remember the Glory days of the Italian Serie A in the late 80's with all the superstars playing in Italy. I'd love to know if its possible to increase a league's reputation to take over the English Premier League, without use of the Editor.

I imagine things like winning trophies with a foreign club and signing high reputation players will all have an impact, but getting the AI teams to play their part in this alongside whatever club im at, has always been the challenge. For example, I have previously had a foreign club at highest rank club in the world, winning the champions league several times, but the AI teams were still behind the premier league sides, so the league reputation of my club didnt change.

I would love to hear if anyone has managed this without using the Editor and how you went about it? If anyone knows any additional factors which could influence or support this?
Great discussion guys, there's nothing more interesting in FM than trying to get the best out of youth talents. @ZaZ can I ask, are you using the same training schedule in Fm23 that you developed last year which focusses mainly on attacking/,defending/physical training along with match practice, whilst avoiding most other options?

Also I'm not sure if this belongs here, but do we know anything which causes attributes to decrease despite players getting first team game time? This might have been addressed before so apologies if I've missed it. I have an IF who is 20yrs old, has a difference of roughly 20 between CA and PA and is playing most first team games. I checked his attributes recently and noticed they had downwards arrows on them. Does anyone know what causes this and how it can be fixed? I currently have his focus on "quickness" and same training schedule as rest of the squad which is the Zaz schedule from FM22.
thanks @ZaZ . with the effectiveness of this new training schedule, does it benefit you more in terms of player development, to keep youth prospects at your club and doing this training schedule rather than loaning them out to leagues of low reputation eg, premier league team loaning 17-18yr old players to league 2 for example, or better to keep around own club due to better facilities, coaching and training schedule?
hey @ZaZ , just a quick question regarding the training schedule. do you recommend keeping the same schedule if playing x2 games per week? Im noticing my players arent getting much training done in those weeks as a few of them end up resting in between games and missing training days, is this still fine? I also end up with Match Parctice falling on days pre and post match days, is this ok and just leave alone, or should i change it according to the schedule?
ZaZ said: DMs usually get low rating, despite being probably the most important players of the tactic. If you check the stats, they give the most passes per match, but very few assists, goals, tackles and so on. Their main role is to move close to player in possession to provide short passing options, and pass the ball for someone in a good position to assist for a goal. Without the ball, their main role is to occupy the space so opponents are forced to use the flanks instead of the middle.

Anyway, my tip is to not look at their ratings unless they are under 6.4. Anything around 6.6 or 6.8 is what you should expect of the RPM, even if the whole team is getting scores over 7.0. In the end, it's thanks to the RPM that they can all get such good scores.

About your question of how to hire the RPM, go for the main attributes, and if you can see potential rating, you need to balance well immediate needs and future needs (it depends on your team).

That makes sense thanks @ZaZ
I never looked at it in that way before, ill start to analyse those types of passing stats more closely for my RPM's from now on. Guimaraes has good attributes for all things needed of a good RPM, such as work rate 15, teamwork 14, stamina 14, decisions 15 etc, but i was unsure that his acceleration and pace only being 12 was causing a huge problem requiring me to sign someone else. His last season average was 6.91 for me, so with what you state here, im assuming i dont have a problem with him and hes doing well for me in terms of what he's offering..
Hi @ZaZ

Can you help with something im still struggling with? Im findingf the RPM a tricky position to scout players for. I have previously used the recommended attributes you posted in the tables in ypur original post for DM, but im wondering how you manage to find new potential wonderkids for RPM positions. For example, if using scout genie, should i look for players with high potenetial % rating for RPM role, or should i focus more on the attributes which the table promotes such as work rate, acc, pace, stamina etc?

I currently have bruno guimaraes in RPM in my newcastle save but his rating sare always very low. I know the DM position is always goign to score lower than other positions but to maximise my team, im looking for another option to upgrade him, or find a new youth player who can grow into that position. Any more recommendions for this position please?
Has anyone looked into positive and negative player traits within the positions and roles for this tactic? I know TFF used to do this a lot for his tactics. For example, would “comes deep to get ball” be a negative trait for a shadow striker in this system? I know the way the tactic plays that we don’t ideally want wingers with “cuts inside” as we want them providing width instead, and for the MC “get forward whenever possible” seems to fit the attacking role really well. I’m just struggling with consistency for my Shadow Strikers so was wondering if anything extra is out there that I’m missing 👍
Magician said: Hi,

I think he'll do great at both positions LW and SS. Also, he's left footed and there aren't many good left footed wingers in the game so I would think of selling him only if I had few left footed winger who are better than him.

Great, thanks mate. I was playing sancho LW so I might swap them round to maybe have Sancho SS and this guy at LW to make use of his left foot preference
Magician said: Follow this table and you'll do great- https://fm-arena.com/table/9-player-attributes-importance/

Acceleration, Pace, Agility, Vision, Dribbling, Anticipation and Decisions are the main attributes for the IWBs.

Hey, with these tables in mind, what position do you feel would best suit this guy? He seems to fit the mould of your SS attributes of finishing is indeed not seen as important, but he hasn’t found his scoring boots in that position for me yet. What do you think? Keep as LW or keep retrain as SS? Or sell??
ZaZ said: Determination also affects attribute gain from training and other aspects, so I believe it's very important, as well as being free. I agree with Bravery not being so important, considering that tackling and marking didn't matter much either. However, Aggression might be relevant since it is another free attribute, which costs no point in CA.

Hi mate,

Can I ask where I might find information on points value and weighting of attributes from CA? I’ve never looked into this before but it’s really sparked my interest.

TUchae said: So what are the most important attributes for the CM position? My player at this position get very low ratings quite often as I'm in a very bad team, while my CDs and SSs can get higher ratings easily, even their CAs are less than my CM

Hi mate,

From my experience of using Phoenix 3, I’ve found the key stats for CM are:- acceleration, off the ball, work rate, finishing and composure. This is because the CM is always moving and often breaks clear of the defence to have 1-1’s so must be good in front of goal to capitalise. I once had camavinga in CM and he was awful as he has poor finishing and composure. Now I play with Alena who is much less in terms of ability but he scores for fun!
