I prefer playing left footed players on the left and right footed players on the right but I don't think it matter much when it comes to the central position.

Yes, I've tried the on Positive mentality and got a worse result than with Very Attacking mentality

I think both ways will work. When you see that it'll take too long to re-train your attacker to play SS then buying a natural or accomplished SS will be a better idea then re-training.

I did quite well with Liverpool using it, the team scored 154 goals in the league.
There's also a killing time version of the tactic, you can use it when you need to kill time in a match.
