Mainly to try smth different to what was used during previous patch. And while it's gonna get some time to figure out a new meta why not just stick with smth that works at least OK xD
It was my initial tactic at the start of FM23. Sadly I didn't put it to test on FM Arena, so I've got nothing to compare with but anyway. The tactic itself is kinda mix between smth I've took from @ZaZ and Knap's tactics in FM22 SPs are from last year's ZaZ Green if remember it correct.
TIs just standard gegenpress with work ball into the box, PIs - a lot.
trying some 4231, since it way more press oriented on current ME, than 433 was playing with mez or cm on attacking duty previously, but ended up with defensive cm/dm just with high d-line switching between short kicks and roll out in distribution type during matches, depending on how much I wanna fast counters atm

Once more, there 2 types of OIs: "Player" OIs and "Position" OIs. Both types can be set in a match and outside of a match.
If you are in a match then the only way to switch between two types of OIs is clicking on the appropriate icons.
When you outside a match then setting "Position" OIs is also available in the "Position" tab: Expand
yeah, that's exactly what I see, so I have to select all players and use "position" OIs checkbox once, so they'll be implemented for all of them or you think it works behind the UI anyway and it just a confusing way to show in-match?
1) "Players" menu - it allows you setting the OIs specifically only against your next opponents. it resets before each match.
2) "Position" menu - it allows you setting the OIs against any opponent, it will apply against every opponent. It doesn't reset each time and you can set it only once and it should apply against each opponent. Expand
Maybe this is just a UI bug, but when I have OIs being set on “positions” tab, then in match it’s a blank space. And even if I manually set the checkbox “use OI” on position, and later this player is being subbed - I don’t have OIs for this position anymore. So the only working way is CMD+A on “players” tab before or in match and set “use OI” checkbox once for random player, so the positions settings of OIs would be translated for this exact match. And I need to do this every time.
just for fun trying what Nagelsmann's doing at some matches since FM doesn't give an option to set on/off the ball formations, let's set it like this to be max close to IRL
3atb with supporting WCB DLP IWs on (su), 1 AM on (su) and forward runs and double SS
Play out of D, work ball into box High D-line
p.s. Bundesliga can't be an indicator for possession (and I want it to be pretty high), but at UCL seems pretty good, given the opposition we had this run
CDs instead of BPD to get passive dribble less and get rid of hidden passives of creative freedom and carrying the ball Mezzala and Volante to dribble more BWM to make shorter passes right IF to sit narrow, left one on standard width (cuz of Mezzala on that flank) wide WBs, but think it's needful sometimes to switch on FBs with cut inside
Positive standard pass WBs to sit narrow AP just like classic number 10: pass first, roaming, dribbling, holding up ball and he'd be a focal point to passes due to hidden passives.
Mentality -> Positive Passing -> Standard D-line -> High removed drop off
FBs to cut inside, cuz it's way more safer, than losing ball wide at flank and suits counter-press with this formation, cuz of fast reaction from mezzalas and bwm
p.s. and on top of that, why just don't play what you like, if it gives WH 2nd place on holiday run xD

also bear in mind you would highly likely overachieve with any tactic which suits your team with smth like 48+ or even less pts from Arena test league also double CMs with any roles score way less then DMs on current M.E., but we can't make anything about it, just wait for patches with possible changes to CMs or wait next FM but I'd better wanted smth besides AF that would work as forward (pf or f9 would be my wet dream)
p.s. ah, and also count that Arena has one overall rating, but some kind of tactics are still supposed to use with top sides or underdogs, like it'd be just stupid to play 4132 with Forrest (funny tho, but still), and it's pure fun with smth like PSG or ManCity

Btw, do you know that there are also "Personal" and "Position" PIs ( Player Instructions ).
It works the same way as it works with the OIs.
Every player can have his personal PIs that would apply only to him.
Just look it have the same icons and changing views style that you see in the OIs.
yup, I got it, just an awful UI

better now?
going with FB on attack duty + cutting inside
still it's not I wanna see to be IRL like, but seem more close than anything else
+overlaps and flanks
+defensive corners setup from cadoni
Car instead of Mez or CM
WBs instead of FB
+ flank-plays and overlaps to further stretch in combo with carrilero
trying what Nagelsmann's doing at some matches

Roma?

Mezzala and Volante to dribble more
BWM to make shorter passes
right IF to sit narrow, left one on standard width (cuz of Mezzala on that flank)
wide WBs, but think it's needful sometimes to switch on FBs with cut inside
Positive
standard pass
WBs to sit narrow
AP just like classic number 10: pass first, roaming, dribbling, holding up ball and he'd be a focal point to passes due to hidden passives.
going with more direct approach
Mentality -> Positive
Passing -> Standard
D-line -> High
removed drop off
FBs to cut inside, cuz it's way more safer, than losing ball wide at flank and suits counter-press with this formation, cuz of fast reaction from mezzalas and bwm

424 is way more balanced than most of tactics atm
going with defensive approach with triple BWM (de)
low d-line w/o drop off
