But there was a slight difference in how each winger role behaved and that was the width they provided in the final third.

The wingers/defensive wingers kept the width in all phases of the game while the inverted wingers, when the build from defence to attack was over, they cut inside WITHOUT the ball. The same is true in this year's version for the inverted wingers. The difference with the wingers/defensive wingers this year is that they can cut inwards WITH the ball at their feet but still maintain their width in attack WITHOUT the ball.

Also the reason why the cut inside roles worked better last year and this year is because of the latest updates they made to FM23 ( ME 23.2 ) that encouraged more central attacking play.

This is my opinion :)

Spot on I reckon

Yes but even them I'm sure it's the width doing it. @Blau uploaded a version of this a few days ago that did incredibly well with DWs. I've been testing the same shape since with IWs and it has been nowhere near as good
I have a hunch that width is very important on this game, a bit like it was in FM22. Last year we could play IWB with IW no problem but I'm not sure that's the case now
Very quickly just testing the effect of attacking mentality and DWs. Best league result so far.

What on earth happened in test #1
This is probably my final version of this tactic for a while. Tackle harder has been removed from all players aside from the GK, and lots of PIs have been added to mirror the ones that @Delicious has been using recently in different shapes to this one.

I've had a bit of a mare there. Tactic (despite being wrong) did alright though
Thought I'd test another version of this while I was here. Added dribble more and take more risks to all outfield positions, plus I got rid of "get further forward" on IWBs and IWs. Luton were also involved in this test hence why their numbers are skewed slightly.

HELLO I THINK THE MENTALITY WILL PROBABLY STAY THE SAME
Any reason for the lack of tackle harder in these tactics?
Changed mentality back to balanced and added tackle harder on all players. Also added instructions to the AM.

If this tactic is good, then I imagine the 4-2-4 is good as well which uses regular wingers instead of the WM. We'll have to wait and see
Truly the GOAT tactic. If only wide midfielders were easier to find/train
This is essentially a merge of tactics uploaded by @Blau and @Delicious, adding in the very high lines, as well as removing tackle harder from all players.

This shape doing well again? Feels like FM22 so far
sponsorkindest said: I am curious to see the results on this one. In my observation, IW (A) doesn't score a lot of goals as IF (A), that's why the GS is only around 100 ish with Man. City. New variations of the tactics are always fun.

In theory the IW is a more creative role than the IF, therefore shouldn't score as many. In previous years that was true, last year I found that the IF wasn't as good as the IW in just about every aspect. I think it depends more the type of player than the role itself. For instance, Bernardo Silva at IW will score a few but mostly get a bag of assists, Mbappe as IW will get lots of goals but only a few assists
sponsorkindest said: Its just a copy of @Delicious FM 23 tactic but since the testing won't be done with the same corner routine, I don't expect a lot out of this but for me this is the best tactic in FM24. It checks a lot of boxes which I consider to be meta, 3 ATB, Vol (At), More AF (A) / IF (A) the merrier and high D-Line. I would still be interested in your version of this tactic @Steelwood

It has just been uploaded. It uses IWs instead of IFs. Also uses overlap instead of underlap
Well the 3 ATB and high line appears to be doing rather well. Here is another test of that (Luton Town were also involved in this test)

Haha you've just about beaten me to pretty much the same tactic. I'm still testing mine but it'll be up in a few minutes. That back 3 and higher line seems to be working wonders rn
sponsorkindest said: you are absolutely right about high line, I am positive if we change this tactic from low line to high line, it will increase the score by 2 to 3 points. Let me try to get a 424 with a high line.

I'm currently testing another 3 ATB to prove this theory. I wouldn't be surprised if high line became the meta after low line sort of became the meta last year
