I tried to make Red 2.0 in a 4231 since people have asked a lot for that shape. Results are decent in my experiments.
Changes: - IW-At into IF-At - Vol from At to Su - F9 + SS instead of double AF-At - Positive mentality - Improved set pieces
-----
This is the tactic I came up during Beta. It's a high intensity tactic with very attacking mentality, in which every player contributes offensively. Wingbacks and wingers are both inverted, meaning the one holding the ball cuts inside while the one without it opens wide, stretching the field. It follows the philosophy of short-long-wide, where every player will always have those three options of passing when in possession, being free to choose any option they consider best.
The test below was performed with Manchester City and Norwich (fired) on holiday mode. Assistant manager took all decisions, including team selection.
There are no oposition instructions or set piece takers, and foot of wingers is not relevant (inverted might be better, but difference is marginal). Set pieces are made so right BPD and VOL should have the best aerial game and right striker should be the fastest.
Main attributes are probably pace, acceleration, agility and dribbling (jumping reach instead for defenders). Stamina might also be important, but I would wait for FM-Arena tests before trusting it blindly.
No special training schedule is needed, but I would recommend to focus on increasing chance of winning during current season, including attacking movements, defensive position and teamwork for next match bonuses, quickness for most important attributes, match practice and team bonding for happiness and cohesion, and recovery to prevent injuries. I always set up position training to tactic role and individual training to quickness (or GK reactions). For pre-season, I recommend to focus on quickness for most important attributes and endurance to improve condition and avoid injuries during season, with one friendly per week. Use friendlies on reserve/youth team to keep secondary squad players fit.
I will add screenshots for player instructions, team instructions and set pieces later, if tactic is promising enough.

And yeah I won my first trophy this year in the league up with 0.5, all credit goes to you. Many thanks indeed! Expand
I don't know which is better, but people say Electro is better.
This is the top rated tactic from last year. It probably doesn't perform well this year, but I believe people want to see it tested for reference. For more information about the tactic, check this link.

Match engine is the same, as far as I've been told. That means you can copy tactics from here there, but you've got to do it manually. I'll post all details tomorrow when I make the post for 1.0. It's midnight now here, so I am going to bed.
Can you add prints of the tactic and results so we don't need to click the video, please? I mean, those things are needed for a tactic to be tested here.

Haha, I wish I was that guru people think I am! My best tactic for now is Red 0.5, still gonna test on the new engine post-beta and see how it goes. People say the best tactic right now is Electro.
P.S.: Beta is over. Testing Red 0.5 here to see if performance is still the same, then I will upload it as Red 1.0.

The stronger the team, the less team management is needed to keep players fit and happy, because you usually also have a larger squad. Good attributes also work better with higher risk tactics, while bad attributes could benefit more of lower risk tactics. Anyway, some tactics are so good that they work for both strong and weak team, I hope we can find a few of those this year.

Thanks for testing. Just remember results might change when beta is over, since match engine will be updated.

Thanks for the tactic and good games for everyone. Expand
I never touch those, but they might improve your chances if you know what you are doing.
Mark said: You have moved away from using Target Forwards. I will give your tactics a try in the next few days. I do like a couple of formations in the new game and one is yours. the 4-2-2-2 wide I think works well. The other is combinations of Electro, a 4-2-3-1 or some derivatives of it like 4-1-3-1-1 or 4-1-2-1-1. I think the defensive back 4 are pretty set, Inverted WB or WB Support or Attack with 2 DCs BPD Defend. So I think there has been plenty of progress through the Beta period so far. Time will tell if these hold but I suspect they will. There really hasn't been a major flaw unearthed that would make them change the match engine yet like a corner or throw in routine that happened the last few years. Expand
Thank you! I'm pretty happy that we have different formations with good results, I hope we can see at least three different layouts at the top this time.

Sane said: Norwich seems weak in your tests, don't you think weaker teams should use a lower intensity? Expand
I wouldn't say 40-50 points a season with Norwich is weak, but I am trying my best to improve these results. However, I don't think lower intensity will do any good, I would rather change the mentality or change a couple of roles.
I did a couple more of experiments and Red 0.4b seems better. In four runs, results for Manchester City were: 1. 94 pts, 89 gd 2. 101 pts, 90 gd 3. 99 pts, 103 gd 4. 100 pts, 90 gd 5. Running while I sleep.
It seems very stable and it got good results even in seasons with heavy injuries. Unless someone finds different results, I'll use 0.4b as base for Red 0.5, for my next planned tests.

For the test, I just started the game, plugged in the tactic and went to holiday, marking the option to use current match tactics.

After release of the game, the best version will become 1.0, if the engine doesn't screw it up. Then the real tests will start.
