Jimmy said: I feel like the good score/performance of this tactic and ZaZ's one (compared to others) is mainly due to set pieces rather than the formation or instructions. Congrats.

He was very clear that he based this tactic in two other successful tactics from FM21, so I don't get why you are saying results are only because of set pieces. Red uses the same set pieces and performs worse.
Mark said: Thanks. I mainly used Dragons Breath and Electro in Beta. Took Hungerford to the top of the VNS League and was offered the job at Scunthorpe who were last in L2. Took them to mid table pretty quickly. I still like the 4-1-3-0-2 formation which isn't far off last years winning formations. I am hoping they test Dragons Breath which tested so well for me in holiday mode.

I am still keen to try a few winning formations from 2020 and 2019. Then take the ones I think are best and the ones that are winning on FM Arena and give them a solid test in the lower leagues to get my starting tactic. Although, if any of mine are rated any good I will go with them.

I just made a new test league with editor, now I'll start testing again from scratch, starting from Red and Blue (FM21).
Augustin said: Any chance you could tell me what you've changed in your underdog tactic with regards to the "normal" Red 1.0?

Lowered one tick of press intensity and tempo.
Mark said: I have a few more days testing left and then might have a play with that thought. It kind of makes sense. What it might mean is that as you move through the divisions you very slowly increase the intensity. Are you talking Mentality and Tempo?

Press intensity and tempo. Lowering one tick of each seemed better than lowering just one of them.
Gratz for the score! I've tried something like that during early beta and it went bad, but it seems like lots of stuff have changed with the match engine. Even Blue with SS improved a lot from Beta to release, so I guess I should start trying in that direction again.
Mark said: Not sure I agree with that. I think it is more that you can make a bigger impact with tactics at lower levels. With League 1 your tactic still finished 5th with an expectation of below 16th so I wouldn't say it is a bad result. Far from it, you would still be considered very successful with that result.

I would need to test more with the Leagues above to draw more conclusions I think.

FM Arena are marking low at the moment but I have had a lot of success using combinations of 3 or 4 tactics from here that seem very successful.

I tried with three different tactics and everytime I lower intensity, lower team does better. It might be because of a completely different reason, but it seems to me that weaker teams don't have the intensity to keep up with higher intensity tactics. They still do well with them, but not as well as they would with lower intensity. I wish someone else could test it to see if the hypothesis stands.
NoSignal said: Can u add screenshots for player instructions, team instructions and set pieces? I want to try this on switch where i cant Just pug tactic.

Since his tactic got better results for underdog teams, I suppose I don't need to show those things from mine, right?
Mark said: Very impressive below L1 level with 3 wins and a 2nd from 4 divisions. Only 5th in L1. But overall should get you through to playing professional and then still competitive until you make the big leagues.

Thank you for testing! I suppose that proves weaker teams don't have the stamina to keep up with high intensity tactics. I guess higher Stamina on players would help, but it's hard to tell without testing or knowing how the new stamina system works exactly.

DJJENSEN said: What should we do in a red card situation?

Remove the left AF (would be my first option) or the left VOL.
Ucan said: underdog red1.0b result

Nice result! And it's not just against Manchester City, but Manchester City with Haaland.
NoSignal said: @ZaZ can u add screenshots for player instructions, team instructions and set pieces for underdog team? Just waiting for that to start my game on switch :)

Ok, gonna do when I get home from delivering kids to school.
Just added a version for underdog teams. In vacation mode with Norwich, it can consistently take them to Euro Cup (around 10 points per season more than normal Red and 20 goal difference better). @Mark, let me know if you can try this one in the lower leagues. =)
Target Person said: If I had to accomodate a technical No.10 AMC type with average speed (12/13 pace/acceleration) would you suggest playing him at IW or AF? Or just sell him yo buy quicker players?

Thanks

If you have other options, sell him. If you don't, put him in AF by the left side (right AF stays forward on defensive set pieces, so he is the main guy for counter attacks).

P.S.: Seems like we have lots of potential to improve our tactics. If this one looked pretty good, can't wait for the first 7's to appear!
Cav said: Okay, so 10 games into the season and this is what it looks like (still on 4b btw)

Thanks for testing! Just so I know, what is the media prediction of Hibernian?
stetoon said: hows the test going?

Only gonna end tomorrow. Need at least 8 more runs or so, to know which version is the best. In short, weak teams are not enduring the tactic, so lowering tempo or pressing intensity makes them perform better. However, this makes it worse for stronger team. It happens because of the new stamina system.

MarcusA said: Using this as Wrexham. At mid-season I'm in first with 51 points (16 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses); 2 points above the second in the league. Did manage to defeat Sunderland in the FA cup.

Nice, thank you for testing!
Mark said:

I was expecting way worse! Thanks for testing!
I'm quite sure I found the reason for this tactic to perform badly for weak teams. Gonna make some tests to confirm, then I add a version for weaker teams.
Mark said: I have tested 6 tactics today since the release. Selected tactics based on a combination of Eric's testing and my Beta testing. Ran the tactic in 5 divisions with sides that were all 33/1 with the bookmakers and rated between 16 and 20 with the media. L1 Shrewsbury, L2 Carlisle, VNL Halifax, VNN Southport and VNS Hungerford.

Here are the results.

You will notice that Electro and Arrowhead had less games. Electro Manager was sacked by Shrewsbury after 37 League games and Arrowhead Manager was sacked after just 14 games by Hungerford. This probably meant they faired better than they would have given their under performing team didn't play out the season. Next to test is ZaZ Red 1.0 and then the remainder of the tactics of interest.

As always my interest is lower league sides so there are columns for Non League PPM and Rank. The main column of interest should be PPM. I do find it interesting in my tests to date that no one formation is dominating so far with this release.

Hope this helps someone.

Fingers crossed for Red 1.0, but I don't think it will do so well since it really sucks for Norwich.
Gpassosbh said: @ZaZ do you recommend your training from last year?

Yes, I do. However, as I always say, it might not be the best routine since I didn't make any tests for it.
I believe people want to know if SS is bad or good in FM22, so I made Red with SS instead of AF. It definitely feels better than during Beta, but it doesn't look as strong as AF.

The test below was performed with Manchester City and Norwich (fired) on holiday mode. Assistant manager took all decisions, including team selection.

Leave a comment below if you liked the tactic and make sure to share your results. Enjoy!
ta2199 said: Do you feel any difference between beta and official release? I can't find any changelogs for 22.1 :-?

In my tests, Norwich gets 10-15 points less per season, and goal difference is 15-20 goals worse. For Manchester City, it lost 3-5 points per season and goal difference is around 5 goals worse, on average.
