Robbie Lee seems like the best choice for immediate results, but Selahattin Yildirim might become better in the future as he is only 19.
StewG said: Excellent, I was already having success without Get Stuck In, was planning to test with wingers, glad you beat me too it :D

Two points for avoiding one or two red cards a season seems reasonable.
Trying a new take starting from this tactic from @Steelwood.

Delicious said: Yo, a question you said that the "reliable set pieces on corner defend" were better then this one?
Just asking because i am gonna test some set pieces and i wanted to know if i have to re-test reliable or not.

To be fair, they are too close to draw any conclusion. Would need @Zippo to help testing that, because I don't think the results can be measured well with normal tests. There is a big difference between optimal and normal set pieces, but between two good set pieces, the difference is minimal.
Based on this tactic. Asymmetric version in which left side overlaps while right side underlaps.

Based on this tactic. Since players are holding the ball better than before, I removed the instruction to Distribute Quickly and set attacking throw-ins to deliver short.

opq said: If you use DW, do you change them to normal W after yellow to get rid of passive tackle harder?

This tactic is to allow you to simple remove tackle harder once you receive a yellow card. It's not allowed with either Get Stuck In, or with DWs.
Just Major tactic from @Steelwood, but without DW and Get Stuck In, to allow reducing intensity of players after receiving yellow cards.

opq said: what about defensive corners? I've used similar setup, but + with one DM player on covering central zone
and it seems after the patch I started to concede way more right from this central zone
but my other players were mostly on player mark, not "go back", mb that helps a bit for them to fulfill this zone too

In my tests, that configuration conceded the last for set pieces.
Based on the top tactic. I changed DWs to IFs and tested some defensive set pieces.

- Pressing forwards as side strikers

This tactic absolutely destroyed on my test build. Might be more suitable for stronger clubs, not sure.

Good job with the tactic! It isn't much improvement, but brings new possibilities.
DawidFM said: this test only shows that it is not worth throwing tactics on this site. this tactic was created as a copy-paste with two roles changed to convince yourself of the credibility of this site. the original tactic is in 1st place(@chef  and this one loses 15 points to it. Weird but this is my last tactic that i uploaded on this website. there's no point in spending time creating and testing tactics that are monsters in the game but have some weird results here on the forum.

You removed Get Stuck In, lowered tempo, made passing much shorter, added Be More Disciplined, removed play by the flanks... Hoe can you say it's a copy and paste? Maybe the changes you did were exactly the things that bring good results.
kjordafen said: Regarding player development: what is the best way to spot a wonderkids potential ability? Currently I have been looking at scouts evaluation with potential stars and also some time is says "can develop a lot", but wondering if there is any more accurate way of saying.

Found a wonderkid 17 year old with 16 finishing, 16 dribbling, 16 technical, 15 pace/accelaration, 17 work rate (decent 11-13 most other relevant ratings for striker). My scout say 2 + 1 potential star ability. But I know that that player is already one of the best in my club based on those stats. How do you scouts for talent when scouts give such low rating to these players?

Usually, young players with high attributes is a good indicator. I usually check their physical attributes, because someone with very high physical attributes at the age of 16 or 17 will most likely become a monster in the future. Determination is another attribute that wonderkids usually start with 20.

Sharpy said: Great discussion guys, there's nothing more interesting in FM than trying to get the best out of youth talents. @ZaZ can I ask, are you using the same training schedule in Fm23 that you developed last year which focusses mainly on attacking/,defending/physical training along with match practice, whilst avoiding most other options?

Also I'm not sure if this belongs here, but do we know anything which causes attributes to decrease despite players getting first team game time? This might have been addressed before so apologies if I've missed it. I have an IF who is 20yrs old, has a difference of roughly 20 between CA and PA and is playing most first team games. I checked his attributes recently and noticed they had downwards arrows on them. Does anyone know what causes this and how it can be fixed? I currently have his focus on "quickness" and same training schedule as rest of the squad which is the Zaz schedule from FM22.

Yeah, the same schedule because their results didn't change much in FM23. Attack and defending still give the best growth after match practice, and physical is needed to grow speed and endurance.

About the decrease in attributes, players go through rebalance of attributes every now and then, causing some attributes go decrease to accommodate their CA. Internally, attributes actually go up to 100, so an attribute 19 is actually represented as a value close to 95. That means a value can decrease to 94, or increase to 96, and still be shown as 19 (causing it to have a negative arrow, even without showing any decrease). That is not a big deal, and what matters is the growth over a longer period of time, instead of growth in an isolate week.
keithb said: Evidendence based did an update and Defence and Attack are still the top two training sessions by some way, but there has been a few adjustments and improvements to other sessions.

If you want to cheat, the best is all match practice. I remember someone posted a way to make a schedule with all sessions of that.
Steelwood said: Well done @Delicious for creating the new top tactic. Thought I'd play around with it a bit. I changed the passing back to shorter and removed "pass it shorter" from all players with it. I removed most of the instructions on the IWBs but added "shoot less often". I changed the DLP for a DM but added "hold position". It won everything with Liverpool.

Gratz for top!
Delicious said: About awesome, did you reworked your training schedule? or still work like before, a lot of players asking me about that and i have no clue if you working on it and i really won't spam you out for it(because i do imagine they are alot asking for it, if they are that many to asking me about that training schedule)

The training schedule still works well, it didn't need any rework. Just remember that my schedule assumes players are set to no pitch or gym work if their condition is not excellent.
Awesome!
FreddyAdu said: Giving this a try! I used your training schedule for all of FM22 and it was amazing on that game. Do you still use individual training for all players on this one? Thanks!

Edit: I mean with additional focus on quickness, for example.

Yes, individual for quickness.
Steelwood said: I haven't seen regular wingers on a tactic in a while, very interested to see how this goes

They are working better this patch since defense is better. That allows tactics of one DM to shine, and those benefit from IWB as Zippo showed in a post yesterday.
This is a tweak of Fire 2.4 (Tweak II), which in turn carries lots of instructions from the current top tactic from Blau (and Steelwood). I changed some roles, set pieces and player instructions. The idea is to probe the current status of this tactic so I can move into more unique direction (like removing Get Stuck In and simplifying the instruction set).

This patch fixed a bit of the defensive problems from FM23, meaning teams concede less goals per match. With that, offensive power is again more desirable than defense, and tactics with a single DM should be more effective this patch.
